Come, Ye sinners,

If we tarry till we're better, we would never come at all!" If we think ourselves well, in comparison to God, we are sure not to seek the healing and help that only Jesus can give. We, in the light of the grace which God bestows can walk in the healing and pray that the grace of God would take us from faith to faith. Beware of the pride, my daughters that makes us think that with phase 1 of Christian growth behind us we have no lessons still to pursue unto. We have much to strive for in growth and improvements in grace and the instruction of the Lord. Let us build with the strength and help which our God supplies and be those to whom the Lord is pleased, if people may not be.

Do your hands grasp the distaff? Do your hands rock your cradle?

In God's hands are the deep places of the earth and the strength of the hills are His also. Ps 95...

We are in good company when our aim is to be the helper of a godly man and the rocker of a quiver full of cradles. Don't let the world tell you it's a waste. Seek the Lord and see that there is no greater influence upon the world than to be a godly influence upon your own children. No one else's children will follow you like yours will. No other influence upon the world is like the in tact family unit. No great writer or king or orator can carry as many to heaven or hell like a family can. Rock your cradles, girls. Grasp your role in the world and live it to the glory of God. Be a helper and a healer a good guide and a good friend and ask God for the best and most expensive gift that He gives is a godly husband and a quiver full!

Waiting on the Lord is difficult!

I had reason to ask my precious husband to help and lend his strength to the waking up process to the little fellows. We had all had entirely too much fun the night before and were paying the price on the day following. I tried my usual tactics of reading a baby book and calling them to attention and they were still under the covers. I was frustrated. As soon as their daddy entered the room, his presence woke them up. Not saying that they didn't hear anything I said before that, but what a difference a man of God makes in the house. People can live without a man of God in authority over them but it is a serious void.
I was reminded in prayer what a precious gift it is to be under the authority of a man of God. It seems drudgery, when you see the other children and women acting upon their own impulses and doing their own things. God did not intend it thus. God made a special order and a special blessing in the relationship of the family. Clearly representing Himself in that picture. A meek and quiet spirit is nurtured and it is not natural. Wait on the Lord and be of good courage and He will strengthen your heart. Don't believe that there is freedom in "doing your own thing!" It is a lie and whatever good there is in those doing their own things. Live under the light of the authorities and try, by God's grace to submit. Leave the rest of the answers to God.

Sitting under God's "straightening comb"

What a wrestle she is! The whole lot of the women in my house are a wrestle from the Lord. God, I will not let go until you bless me, stated Jacob to the angel that God sent to wrestle with him. I used to imagine an equivalent heavenly creature that Jacob was wrestling. Now that I have the superhuman responsibility of rearing 6 children a task that I have absolutely no idea how to attain, I think that the angel must have been at least 6 times bigger than Jacob and Jacob was saying, if you don't give me something that lets me know that you are not here to kill me, you are going to feel my dead flesh upon you. I am holding on and if I am going out of here, I am going out fighting. Some of my children wrestle as though there lives depended on it. When we have to sit still for the Lord to straighten us out, it is not fun. Sometimes it pinches and sometimes He has to put the stuff on the parts of our skin where we don't want Him messing with. God is good and we have to remember that when we are sitting in one spot, learning one lesson again and again until it sinks in.
I, for one am tired from the wrestling match this morning with half of my child's head. I am not equal to the task. God of mercy, God of grace, You are alive and powerful to wrestle Your truths into our apostate race!

Proverbs 31 is not about what a wise woman is not...

It is the counterfeit helper, by putting positive role models in front of us. Nobody has to tell us how to be contentious. There but for the grace of God, go I. God has mercy and grace for the wickedest of sinners. I just love how men make the womens' sins so onerous. Our contentiousness and vexations are very onerous in God's sight, but thank God for the grace which is able to teach and cleanse and heal the helpless sinner. The mother in Proverbs was trying to give her son instruction on how to live a happy life. Don't get distracted by what she looks like, she instructs. Get distracted by the comfort that she can be in your life that can allow you to live a life of peace.
Esau's wives vexed his mother intensely and I can just imagine. I pray that I never have to watch my children live out those kinds of contentions in their lives. Life can be miserable, if you have children who are constantly unhappy. Contentment, in life and in marriage is a choice. We all have our buttons and we all have our excitements. Angry and sullen and discontented people, when God has been so good to take care of you and to lend you to one another for this short flight on earth is what is wicked.
We ought to accentuate the positive and point out the positive examples of love and life and leave the bad examples to stand out like the sore thumbs that they are.

On the authority of Holy Scripture

The Word of God is alive and powerful and sharper than any 2 edged sword. Beware of dumbing down the scripture for your own benefit. Beware of reading the scripture for your self justification. God's word is true and we are the ones with the problem when we read it. God, give us the grace to read and memorize scripture and to put it to work in our lives. Forgive our simplicity and wicked dumbing down of your word to suit our self justification and give us grace to live in the light of your Word. We love you Lord and want to serve you aright. Amen

Give us this day!

When we sing to God and we give Him our all in singing His Word He adds to our faith and enters into our praise and prayer. This is such a beautiful example of singing to the glory of God.

She opens her arms to the poor...

How can we open our arms to the poor when we are poor? Poverty is not something that keeps you from being a generous person. Your attitude with the items that are in your power is the key. It is easy to be generous when there are people looking and applauding your efforts. The hardest people to be generous with is your brother or sister. You open that piece of candy or something and they look at you and your mind says do I have to share again? I would share if I had more to share. I would share, if...
The best lessons of godliness are learned when you don't want to do what God bids you to do with sister and brother...

In her hands...

She grasps the spindle and the distaff and uses her fingers to create. My grandma was a part of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union in the old days. She was a seamstress and often came over with a piece of material which would become a lovely garment for one or the other of us. She was a master worker at what looked good on people. She knew what made her look good and what made others look good. It is true that man looks on the outward appearance. Know that God looks on the heart.
I love how all of my girls have taken after father and grandmother in their consideration of the outward man and how things look. That is certainly not from me.
God looks on the heart. Adorn your hearts with the things that are precious to God. A meek and quiet spirit is more beautiful to God than diamonds and pearls. He grants these precious gifts as a choice gift to the soul, but they come at great price. I have met a precious few women, beautified with these choice stones of meekness and quietness. I don't blame you if you want to walk in stallettos, but make sure that you don't have an unornamented soul, in terms of what is beautiful to God. I would prefer to be part of the Spiritual Ladies Soul Garment Workers Union. Help us Lord to know what looks good to You!

Its a New Year, Back to the Drawing Board...

Back to the consideration of Proverbs 31...She considers that her merchandise is good. She is not vain. She, in imitation of her Lord, knows the difference between what is good and what is defective in her services. She can assess the situation and separate between the kernel and the chaff, which the wind drives away in her services and products. What is a sellable ware and what is a tossable refuse? She has discernment and is very considering of these items. Receiving reproof from others is key in this regard.
I love the scene in I remember Mama that the mama goes to the author and asks her to critique her daughter's writings. She comes with a bartering proposal to the woman and asks her what her daughter can do to get to be a great author. Learning to hear properly from parents and teachers is what guides you into being useful. This is why that commandment has a promise that it may be well with you. It cannot be well with you if you think that all that you do is good. You must be able to see the good from the garbage. Taste and see that only the Lord is all good. Blessed are you if you trust His judgements and listen to the wise guides which He has provided for you, dear children...
